GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Freshman guard Sango Amolo (Falls Church, Va./McLean) hit a pair of free throws with 0.8 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, and Gettysburg went on to outscore Muhlenberg 10-4 in the extra session en route to a thrilling 84-78 Centennial Conference men's basketball victory Saturday afternoon in Bream Gymnasium.

The Bullets (8-7, 4-4 CC), who won their third game in a row, trailed by as much as 10 midway through the second half before mounting a comeback.

Senior Alex Zurn (Brookeville, Md./St. Andrew's Episcopal) tied a career-high with 29 points – including 25 in the second half – and nearly provided Gettysburg with a storybook ending. After Amolo's foul shots, Muhlenberg's Austin Curry fired a baseball pass from under his own basket to the Mules' frontcourt. Zurn intercepted the pass before banking in a shot from beyond half court; however, it left his hands just after the horn.

Zurn shot 9-for-16 from the floor, including 4-for-9 from 3-point range, and was 7-for-7 at the foul line. He also scored 14 straight points in the second half to help fuel the comeback.

Amolo finished with 17 points – seven more than his previous season-high – while sophomore Joe Emerusabe (Derwood, Md./Magruder) added 10 points. Junior forward Connor Poston (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) contributed eight points, nine rebounds, and three blocked shots for Gettysburg, which was playing its first overtime game of the season, while senior center Christian Bors (Lanham, Md./Sidwell Friends [D.C.]) added eight points and four assists off the bench.

Two players finished with over 20 points for Muhlenberg (8-7, 4-4 CC). Sophomore guard Malique Killing scored 27 points while junior center Kevin Hargrove posted 24 points and nine rebounds. Freshman guard Alec Stevetski added 13 points for Muhlenberg, which shot 23-for-24 at the foul line.

Trailing by two, Gettysburg inbounded at halfcourt with 9.9 seconds left. Zurn missed a 3-pointer from the top of the arc in the closing seconds, but Amolo gathered the rebound and was fouled before knocking down his big free throws. The Bullets never trailed in the extra session after scoring the first seven points, with five coming from Amolo. He converted a steal and lay-up 32 seconds into the period and nailed a 3-pointer with 2:38 left that made it 81-74. The Mules were unable to get closer than five the rest of the way.

Muhlenberg never trailed in the opening half and led by as much as nine on five occasions. An 8-0 Gettysburg run made it 24-23 with 5:32 left in the period, but the Mules answered with an 8-0 spurt of their own to restore their nine-point advantage. But the Bullets cut the lead to six with 32 seconds remaining after a 3-pointer from sophomore guard Mark Siden (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings), making it 34-28 at the intermission.

Gettysburg came all the way back to take the lead (37-36) on a conventional 3-point play from Amolo with 17:30 remaining. However, a 12-2 Muhlenberg run over the middle of the half gave the Mules a 51-41 advantage with 11:47 showing. Zurn then kicked off his scoring spree with one of his career-high four 3-pointers with 10:30 left.

Killing answered with a 3 of his own before Zurn dialed long distance again with 9:33 left. He followed up with a soaring fast-break dunk to cut the deficit in half (54-49) with 9:04 to go.

Zurn continued to tickle the twine with another trey at the 8:45 mark, then went 3-for-3 at the foul line with 7:52 left, sparking off a 7-0 run. The rest of the game would feature six ties and four lead changes.

Poston made it a one-possession game (59-57) when he hit two at the line, and a tip-in from senior center Benjamin Constable (Christchurch, New Zealand/Cashmere) pulled the Bullets even with 7:09 to go.

Zurn added another 3-pointer with 6:00 left to give the Bullets their first lead since early in the second half and hit two free throws with 4:23 showing to put Gettysburg up 64-63. Two other Bullets then stepped up to make big shots down the stretch.

Bors hit a jumper with 3:21 left that cut Muhlenberg's lead to 68-67, and after Killing went 2-for-2 at the line, Emerusabe drained a trey from the right corner to lock the score at 70-all with 1:29 left.

Hargrove dropped in a short jumper in the lane with the shot clock winding down to put Muhlenberg on top with less than a minute left, but Zurn was fouled driving to the hoop with 39 ticks showing. He went 2-for-2 at the stripe before Killing banked in a runner with 9.9 seconds left, setting up the big finish.
