Britons Misfire At The Line

ALBION - Hope outscored Albion by 15 at the free throw line to escape Kresge Gymnasium with a 68-64 victory in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's basketball action.

Hope shot 78 percent from the line (28 of 36) while Albion was 13 of 28 (46 percent).

Hope scored four points in a five-minute span as Albion led by as many as 12 in the first half. Ryan Watson buried a 3-point shot as the Britons held a 22-10 lead midway through the period. The Britons, who connected on 48 percent of their shots from the field in the first half, settled for a 37-32 lead at halftime.

Hope scored the first basket of the second half, but that was the only shot it would get to fall in the first three minutes. Jordan Herron and Zach Hurth scored baskets in the paint and Eric Evans knocked down a jumper as Albion led 43-34 with 17 minutes to play.

Hope reeled off a 13-4 run to tie the score at 47. Colton Overway put the exclamation point on the rally with back-to-back fastbreak baskets off Briton turnovers.

The score was tied at 55 with less than five minutes to play. Ben Gardner made three free throws and Nate Snuggerud added a layup as the Flying Dutchmen surged to a 60-55 lead and it never trailed again.

Overway led all players with 16 points, and Snuggerud added 13.

Hurth, who was 6 of 9 from the field, was Albion's high scorer with 15. Evans contributed 12.
