The Lakeland College men's basketball team shot 52.1% from the field and also dominated the rebounding battle in a 101-73 win over Finlandia (Mich.) University Wednesday night in a non-conference game.
The Muskies made 38 of 73 shots, including 20 of 31 (64.5%) in a scorching first half. Lakeland also out-rebounded the Lions 52-32 in improving to 10-2 overall while dropping Finlandia to 1-12.
Jake Schwarz (Sr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) notched 24 points and eight rebounds and Brandon Hagenow (Fr.-Sussex, Wis.) added a career-high 16 points as four Muskies scored in double figures. Lakeland blew the game open with a 32-6 run in the first half, and led by as many as 42 points midway through the second half before substituting freely the final 10 minutes.
Justin Ward (Jr.-Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) and Joey Burris (So.-Kiel, Wis.) both added 13 points each and combined to shoot 9-of-12. Germell Heard (Sr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) added eight points off the bench as the Muskies received 29 points from their bench. Fourteen different players scored for Lakeland, and the Muskies topped the century mark for the second time this year and first time since their triple-overtime win over Lake Forest (Ill.) College in their opener when Danny Wimmer (So.-Slinger, Wis.) hit a three-pointer with 27 seconds to play in the game.
Ben Coleman led Finlandia with 12 points, while Charron McClain added 11 points in nine minutes off the bench in the second half. The Lions shot 39.5% (30-of-76) and made 8-of-26 from three-point range (30.8%), including seven three-pointers in the second half.
Lakeland returns to Northern Athletics Conference play Saturday when it hosts Dominican (Ill.) University at 4:15 p.m. at Woltzen Gymnasium as the second game of a women's/men's doubleheader.
