GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A tremendous offensive effort led the 16th-ranked Christopher Newport Captains past Greensboro College (6-6, 1-3) Sunday evening, blowing past the Pride for a 90-60 victory on the road. In their final conference game in Hanes Gym, CNU improved to 11-1 on the season, 4-0 against league opponents. The Captains ran its win streak against the USA South to 18 straight regular season victories, dating back to the 2010-11 season.

CNU is now 34-5 in their last 39 games dating back to November 18, 2011, and head coach John Krikorian has posted 52 victories through his first two and half seasons at the helm for the Captains. Against Greensboro, CNU has won 13 straight games in the series, and in Hanes Gym, CNU closes its all-time record at 32-13 against the home team.

In Sunday's blowout, it was sophomore Nik Biberaj who would lead the way, scoring a career-high 22 points on an impressive 10-of-12 shooting performance. He dropped a pair of three-pointers while filling the stat sheet with seven rebounds, three assists, three blocked shots and a pair of steals.

CNU raced out to a 9-0 lead in the wire-to-wire victory, but had to endure a 14-7 run by the Pride as they cut the lead back to just two, 16-14. Biberaj scored the next seven points for the Captains, though, and CNU stretched the lead back to six, 23-17. Greensboro would keep within arms reach for the remainder of the half; after a late bucket from leading scorer Damian Dixon with under ten seconds remaining, the Captains raced down the floor and saw Rashon Woody nail a 30-footer at the buzzer to give CNU a seven-point lead at the break, 39-32.

Biberaj was on fire from the start, scoring 14 first-half points on 6-of-7 from the floor. Dixon matched his scoring output for Greensboro, knocking down three trey's and scoring 14 in the first half.

Right out of the locker room, though, the Captains put the game out of reach. After trading baskets on the early possessions, the Captains picked up offensively and quickly posted a 21-6 run for a 19-point lead with 10:46 showing on the clock. A big slam dunk on a fast break by rookie Hunter Wetherell was the exclamation point in the run, that saw CNU get field goals from seven different players.

The Captains leaned on stellar three-point shooting from the whole team, knocking down 13 trey's in the game, with no one player hitting more than two. All five starters had a pair, while Connor Laframboise, Zach Youngman, and Woody's first-half buzzer beat rounded out the long-range attack. CNU shot 59.1% from deep, helping finish the game at a smoking 60% pace from the field (36-60). In the second half alone, the Captains knocked down 67.7% of their shots (21-31), led by a combined 7-for-8 by Biberaj and Mike Cherry.

Biberaj's well-rounded performance led the way, but CNU got big contributions across the board. Freshman Evan Thorpe scored a career-high 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting, and Benefield poured in 18 to round out the double figure scoring. Thirteen different Captains factored into the scoring column.

Greensboro got 16 points from Dixon, while Luqman Tijani added 15 and Brian Thomas had 10. The Pride shot 33.9% from the field, including 30.8% from three-point land.

CNU remains unbeaten in league play and runs their win streak to six games. The Captains will put those marks on the line next on Wednesday, January 9 at N.C. Wesleyan College (7-5, 0-3), with tip set for 7:00 pm.
