The Statesmen (6-4, 2-0) never led during the second half and trailed by as many as 10 as late as the 9:07 mark, but staged its second furious rally in as many days to pull out the victory. Thoroughbred Brian Moore made a 3-pointer to put his team up 47-37. Sophomore guard Connor Rehbaum sank a trey at the other end of the floor to spark an 8-0 run. After Moore missed a triple, junior guard Joe Gibbons made two free throws. Tanner Brooks missed another long range shot for Skidmore and Thompson dropped in a three to make it a two-point game.
 
A pair of free throws by sophomore guard Trey Blanding with 5:43 left in regulation made it a one-point game, but a traditional 3-point play by Brooks and a triple by Eric Lowry pushed the Thoroughbreds lead back to seven. Two freebies by Aldin Medunjanin with 57 seconds left gave Skidmore a four-point lead. Thompson earned a trip to the line with 27.7 seconds to go and made 1-of-2 to get Hobart within a single possession. Rezin Davis stole the inbounds pass, giving Thompson the opportunity to convert an NBA-range 3-pointer with 2.1 seconds remaining to force overtime.
 
In OT, the Thoroughbreds (7-4, 1-1) came up empty handed on their first four possessions allowing the Statesmen to build a 65-60 lead. Unfazed, Skidmore scored six straight, taking a 66-65 lead with 17 seconds left on a Brooks jumper.
 
Thompson attempted a layup with about four seconds remaining, but it was off the mark. Fortunately for Hobart, Bonney was there to grab the carom. He was fouled on his put back attempt with 2.5 seconds to go and calmly made both tries to put the Statesmen back in front 67-66.
 
Skidmore's desperation heave was off the mark.
 
Hobart was able to overcome a minus six turnover margin (13-6) by keeping the Thoroughbreds from taking advantage of its miscues. Skidmore held a narrow 11-10 edge in points off turnovers. Conversely, the Statesmen had a slim 16-13 advantage on the offensive glass, but outscored the Thoroughbreds 20-6 in second chance points.
 
Bonney finished with a game-high 29 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Gibbons added 12 points and six boards and Thompson chipped in 11 points. Rehbaum came up just a bit shy on his double-double bid, recording nine points and nine rebounds. Senior forward Sean Peer led Hobart to a 42-33 advantage on the glass with a game-high 11 rebounds.
 
Brooks paced Skidmore with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and a game-high six assists. Sakhile Sithole contributed nine points and Medunjanin registered five points, five rebounds, and five assists before fouling out 58 seconds into overtime.
 
Yesterday, Hobart rallied from a 15-point, second half deficit at Rensselaer to score a 90-85 win. Bonney led the charge in that contest as well, scoring a game-high 40 points. He shot 75 percent from the floor for the weekend, scoring 69 points and grabbing 18 boards.
 
The Statesmen continue conference play at home in Bristol Gym, hosting RIT at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8.
