UW-La Crosse Earns Third Straight Win

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team earned its third straight win with a 65-49 victory over UW-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 11-3 overall and 4-1 in the WIAC while the Titans fall to 6-8 overall and 1-4 in the conference. UW-L, receiving votes on this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll, earned its sixth win in the last seven meetings with UW-Oshkosh.

Saturday's game was tied three times in the first half. The Eagles led 25-24 with 7:44 left in the half when they used a 10-2 run to end half and led 35-26. Luke Tweed and Braden Tice each had five points in UW-L's run.

The Eagles scored the first seven points of the second half to lead 42-26 with 16:30 remaining. UW-L later led 47-31 when UW-Oshkosh went on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 47-38 with 9:16 left. Connor De Bruin made a layup and Tweed made one-of-two at the line to give the Eagles a 50-38 lead with 5:53 left.

The Titans cut the advantage to 50-41 with 5:39 remaining on Jade Royston's three-point play, but UW-Oshkosh could get no closer the rest of the game. UW-L ended the game on a 15-8 run, going eight-of-nine at the free throw line in the last 2:01.

Tweed led UW-L with 19 points Saturday, finishing seven-of-nine from the field, including two-of-two from three-point range. He was three-of-four at the line and added a game-high eight rebounds. Tice tallied 15 points, finishing four-of-six from the field, including three-of-five from three-point range. He was four-of-four at the line.

Trent Schmidt had 13 points off the bench, going four-of-six from the field, including hitting his three-point attempt. Schmidt was four-of-five at the free throw line.

UW-L shot 39.3% from the field, including 38.1% (eight-of-13) from three-point range. The Eagles shot 81.3% (13-of-16) at the line.

Dylan Wurtz led UW-Oshkosh with 12 points and seven rebounds while Royston tallied 11 points.

UW-Oshkosh shot 33.3% from the field, including 28.6% (six-of-21) from three-point range. The Titans shot 75.0% (nine-of-12) from the free throw line.

UW-L returns to action Wednesday, January 9 hosting UW-River Falls at 7 p.m.
