Hunter Rebounds Way to Victory Over Beavers Despite Late Rally

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Three double-doubles and 60 team rebounds were too much to overcome for the City College of New York (4-9, 0-5 CUNYAC) as Hunter College (5-8, 2-3 CUNYAC) defeated the Beavers, 89-80, in Friday's City University of New York Athletic Conference contest at the Hunter Sportsplex.

Brandon Reeves and Anthony Lewis led all Beavers with 16 points apiece on 7-of-12 and 8-of-16 shooting, respectively. Reeves added seven rebounds, two steals and tied his career-high with three block shots and 12 of his 16 points came in the second half while senior point guard Paul Dail was a menace on the defensive end with a game-high six steals and 10 assists, reaching double figures in the assist column for the second time this season. Dail also picked up a season-high eight points and tied his season-high with five rebounds while Terence Johnston finished with eight points and eight rebounds, a season-high. Derell Williams led all CCNY bench scorers with a season-high nine points in 16 minutes of action and David Solano finished with eight points.

The Beavers trailed by as much as 21 with just over three minutes left to play in the opening half and went into the half trailing by 14. However, led by Reeves' 12 second-half points and Dail's seven assists and three steals in the second period, the Beavers scored seven unanswered points to cut their deficit to two, 72-70, with three minutes left to play.

The Beavers return to Nat Holman Gymnasium on Tuesday, Jan. 8 to face York College at 7 p.m. Tuesday's contest follows the women's basketball game that features the Beavers hosting the Cardinals at 5 p.m.

Notes: Dail's 10 assists marked the second time this season and in his career that the senior reaches double figures in assists… His eight points and five rebounds were season high's… Reeves' three block shots tied his career-high, which he recorded earlier this season… Roje Foster's six points in 12 minutes of action were season and career-highs for the freshman… Johnston's eight rebounds, three assists and 28 minutes of action were season-highs… Williams' nine points were a season-high for the senior.
