DiBartolomeo Moves into Fourth Place in Career Assists as UR Wins

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – John DiBartolomeo scored 23 points, grabbed six rebounds, handed out five assists, made two blocks, and one steal in 25 minutes to lead the University of Rochester to a 78-48 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology at the Louis Alexander Palestra on Wednesday night.

He moved into fourth place on Rochester's career assist list with 451. He passed Gabe Perez (2001-2005) who totaled 448 assists. DiBartolomeo is 20 assists shy of matching Terry Fitzgerald (1982-86) for third place (471).

The Yellowjackets, ranked fourth nationally in the current D3hoops.com poll, improved to 11-0. Rochester opens the UAA season at home on Saturday against Emory University. RIT had a three-game winning streak snapped. The Tigers are 4-5.

Twelve of the 14 Rochester players scored at least two points. Eight men hit three pointers. DiBartolomeo had three. Nate Vernon, Kevin Sheehy, and Jared Seltzer made two each. Sheehy was the only other Rochester player in double figures. He scored 10 points in 18 minutes.

Nick Dobson and Eric Travis scored 12 points apiece for RIT. The inside duo shot a combined 10 of 14 from the floor. RIT hit 40.4% from the field (19 of 47) and 25% outside the arc (3 of 12). Rochester was 30 of 63 from the floor (47.6%) and 13 of 23 on threes (56.5%). 

A jumper by Travis pulled RIT within three, 21-18, with 8:29 left in the first half. DiBartolomeo tipped in his own miss, then fed Sheehy and Tyler Sankes for layups in the next two minutes. DiBartolomeo finished the 8-0 run with a  jumper in the paint. It gave Rochester a 29-18 lead with 4:56 left in the half. The Yellowjackets led, 37-24, at halftime.

This was Rochester's first game since December 8. RIT had not played since December 15.
