Embry-Riddle elected to commit a foul after the ensuing inbounds instead of allowing a potential tying three-pointer. Hefele made the first of two foul shots with five seconds left. His second attempt missed, but the rebound went out of bounds off an Embry-Riddle player's hands. On the following inbounds pass, Hefele was fouled and hit two foul shots with three seconds left to send the game to overtime.

Cortland took its lone lead in overtime at 63-62 on a Smith three-pointer with 3:55 left. The Eagles scored eight of the next 10 points, including two Mandragon three-pointers, and led 70-65 with 41 seconds remaining.

Smith nailed a trey with 27 second left and Pastrana hit two foul shots with 20 seconds left. Another Smith three-pointer with 14 seconds remaining drew the Red Dragons within one, but Pastrana made two more free throws with 11 seconds left. Smith's off-balance attempt at a game-tying three-pointer missed the mark in the final seconds.

Cortland shot 37 percent from the floor and 28 percent (10-of-36) from three-point range. Embry-Riddle hit 42 percent of its shots and 31 percent (8-of-26) from the arc. The Eagles made 18-of-20 free throws to Cortland's 7-of-9 performance from the line.
