WISCONSIN DELLS (December 30, 2012) - UW-Stout clamped down on defense, especially in the first half, and went on to a 62-42 win over Concordia-Wisconsin, Sunday, at JustAGame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells.
The Blue Devils (10-2), coming off only their second loss of the season, held Concordia (3-5) to only 14 first half point enroute to a 29-14 halftime lead. Stout held Concordia scoreless on 13 first half possessions and limited the Falcons to only 17 percent shooting in the first half (5-29). The Blue Devil defense kept up the work in the second half, allowing only 30 percent (10-33) and 24 percent (15-62) for the game.
A night after being limited to 34 percent shooting from the floor, Stout stepped up their shooting game in the second half against the Falcons, draining 57 percent (12-21) of their second half shots to finish the game by shooting 42 percent (21-49).
Stout also controlled the boards, pulling down 45 rebounds compared to 33 for the Falcons. Stout did not give Concordia many second chances, grabbing 33 defensive boards. Josh Kosloske (Jr, Oakdale) led Stout with eight rebounds, while Jay Higgins (Jr, Maple Grove, Minn) had six.
The Blue Devil had a balanced scoring attack with four players in double digits, but none scoring more than 11 points. Aaron Jenny (Jr, Spicer, Minn) and Jarvis Ragland (Jr, Milwaukee) each finished with 11 points while Alex Oman (Jr, Lake Elmo, Minn) and Kosloske each had 10 points.
Steve Zielinski was the only Concordia player in double figures, scoring 10 points and matching Kosloske's eight rebounds.
Stout returns to action Thursday, Jan. 3 when they host UW-Eau Claire at 6 p.m.
