LEXINGTON, Ky. – Transylvania  forward Ethan Spurlin scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds Saturday and reserve Trey Beuttel added a career-high 17 points, leading the Pioneers to a holiday men's basketball win over Thomas More at the Beck Center.
 
The Pioneers are 8-3 on the season while the Saints are 8-2. With the win, Brian Lane earned career victory No. 199  in 12 years at Transy. He is seeking to become just the second person to get 200 wins at Transy, joining Don Lane, who had 509.
 
Transy led by 13 points at halftime and steadily maintained a margin between eight and 15 points throughout the second half, taking advantage of a leaky Thomas More press to convert a number of easy baskets.
 
Spurlin was nine of 13 from the field as Transy shot 52 percent from the field for the game. Beuttel was three of six, two of five from long range, and perfect in nine attempts at the free throw line, Brandon Rash, who scored 11 points to go with nine rebounds, eight assists, two blocks, and two steals, was five of six from the field.
 
Another reserve, Leavitt Morrison, was three of four from the field and scored six points. Barrett Meyer andParker Stansberry were also in double figures, with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Meyer was three of six shooting.
 
Thomas More was 26 of 62 from the field for 40 percent. The Saints did hit 13 of 14 free throws to 19 of 26 for the Pioneers, but the visitors made eight of 25 from long range compared to seven of 19 for Transy.
 
Drew Mumford led Thomas More with 18 points and D'Carlo Hayes added 17.
 
Transy led by as many as 15 points in the first half, which ended with the Pioneers on top, 40-27. Transy hit 16 of 29 from the field (55.2 percent) while the Saints converted 10 of 26 (38.5 percent).
 
Seven different Pioneers scored in the half, led by Rash's nine points and eight each by Spurlin and reserve Beuttel. Transy was six of 13 from long range, including a two of four effort by Beuttel in 11 minutes.
 
Mumford paced the Saints with nine points.
 
After a Christmas break, the Pioneers will return to action on Jan. 2 when they travel to Franklin for a Heartland Conference matchup. Transy is back at home to tackle Defiance on Jan. 5.
