The Pride men's basketball team shot 69.2% from beyond in the arc in the second half to run away with an 81-53 win at Barber-Scotia on Tuesday night. Greensboro finished the game shooting 414.8% from the field and went 12-26 from three, including a 9-13 effort in the second half.
Devonta Davis led the charge with 22 points, going 7-11 from three-point territory. Brian Thomas and Chakiris Moss added 12 points apiece, with Tracy Jester contributing ten.
The Pride took control of the game after leading 15-13 with 8:37 left in the first half. A three-pointer by Davis kicked off an 8-2 run that pushed the margin to 23-15.
The lead would hit double digits at 31-20 following another trey by Davis with 2:16 to go. Donald Anderson gave Greensboro its largest advantage of the first half with a free throw that brought the score to 34-20 with under one minute left in the half. The Sabers would add a basket with seven seconds remaining as the score went into the break with The Pride on top 34-22.
Greensboro left Barber-Scotia with little opportunity to rally in the second half. Each Saber rally was answered with a barrage of Pride threes.
After going ahead 63-42, Greensboro saw its lead briefly dwindle to 12. However, a string of three pointers by Thomas, Davis and Jester expanded the lead back to 73-49 with 3:50 to go. The lead would reach its biggest margin of the night at 81-51 before the final settled at 81-53.
The Pride bench outscored the Saber bench 24-12 on the night. Greensboro also held a slight 40-39 advantage on the boards.
"Anytime we win on the road it is a good win," said head coach Bryan Galuski. "I am proud of the way the guys came out to play in the second half. Everyone had a chance to contribute and it was a great team effort."
With the win, The Pride move to 5-3 on the season. Greensboro will return to the floor on December 30 at Division I Coastal Carolina.
