APPLETON, Wis. - Sophomore forward Andrew Schwoerer did not miss a shot from the floor or the free-throw line to lead St. Norbert College past Lawrence University 70-52 in a Midwest Conference game at Alexander Gym.
Schwoerer finished with 23 points by going 9-for-9 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, and connected on one three-point field goal. He also had six rebounds and did not commit a turnover in 31 minutes of action.
Lawrence (4-5, 3-3 MWC) held a six-point lead in the early going before St. Norbert slowly ground to a 20-17 lead with 5:54 left before halftime. The Green Knights went on an 8-0 run, with six points coming from Schwoerer, to take a 28-17 advantage with 3:37 left before settling on a 32-24 lead at halftime.
The Green Knights (4-3, 3-2) led 43-29 on a basket by Schwoerer with 16:34 left before the Vikings went on an 8-0 run over the next two minutes to get to within 43-37 with 14:31 to go. But St. Norbert answered with a 7-0 run, capped off by a Jeremy Paprocki 3-pointer for a 50-37 edge with 12:22 left. The Vikings would get no closer than 10 points the rest of the game.
St. Norbert shot 50.9 percent (28-for-55) from the floor. The Green Knights got 12 points from Izaiah Anderson and 11 points from Brandon Gries to complement Schwoerer's big afternoon. St. Norbert had only 10 turnovers and outrebounded the Vikings 34-25.
Lawrence was led by Ryan DePouw's 13 points. The Vikings shot 19-for-44 (43.2 percent) from the floor and were 8-for-25 (32.0 percent) from beyond the three-point arc.
