Michele Scores Season High in Oswego State Triumph

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – Sean Michele (Sr., East Rochester, N.Y.) scored a season-high 17 points to lead the Oswego State men's basketball team (7-1, 2-1 SUNYAC) to a 73-57 win over Cazenovia (3-6) on Friday night.

The Lakers buried 12 three-pointers in the contest compared to just four by the Wildcats. Oswego State forced Cazenovia to commit 16 turnovers and recorded 16 assists on its 25 field goals.

Michele tacked on six assists in the game and contributed five treys on just nine attempts from downtown. Hayden Ward (Sr., Montauk, N.Y.) added 13 points for the Lakers, who earned their fourth straight win.

Oswego State never trailed in the contest, starting the game on a 7-0 run with five quick points by Chris Gilkes (Sr., Syracuse, N.Y.). The Wildcats stayed within reach for most of the half, with a Matt Perry three-pointer narrowing the lead to 21-19 with 10:42 left in the stanza.

The Lakers countered with a 13-0 run, which was powered by two Michele three-pointers to build a 15-point lead. At halftime, Oswego State led 45-28.

Oswego State only put up 28 points in the second half, but held its opponent to 27. The Wildcats got as close as 15, but the Lakers lead stretched to as much as 24. Perry led the Wildcats with 14 points, but was the only Cazenovia player in double-digits.

The Lakers are off the courts until Friday, January 4th, when they'll host St. Lawrence at 7 p.m.
