Pineville, LA – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team used red-hot second half shooting to put the game out of reach as the Cru posted an 83-64 victory over Louisiana College Monday night in Pineville, Louisiana. UMHB improves to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Wildcats to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the ASC on the year.
The Cru opened the game with a 12-3 run and led by as many as 15 points in the early going. LC chipped away at the lead to cut it to 35-28 UMHB at the half. The Wildcats pulled to within 40-34 early in the second half, but the Cru responded with a 9-0 run to take the lead to 15. LC cut it to nine points on two more occasions, but UMHB once again answered and opened up a 22-point lead before coasting to the 19-point win.
Thomas Orr led a balanced scoring attack with 15 points for the Cru and he also snatched eight rebounds. James Allen had 13 points, Layton Zinsmeister chipped in 12 and Cory Meals scored 10 for UMHB. Kitrick Bell grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds. The Cru shot 67 percent from the field in the second half and finished at 55 percent for the game. UMHB also out rebounded the Wildcats 41-31 in the victory.
Doc Welch led LC with 14 points and Anthony Gaines, Jr. scored 12. The Wildcats were held to 34 percent shooting in the game and went 9-26 from three-point range.
The Cru will now return home for a pair of ASC games later this week. UMHB will host U.T.-Dallas for a 7:30 PM start on Thursday before closing out the week with a 3:00 PM tip-off on Saturday against the University of the Ozarks.
