With a well-rounded effort that included points from all 15 players, the University of Redlands men's basketball team dismissed the Gladiators of Pacifica University on Saturday by a score of 119-88. The Bulldogs concluded the 2012 Lee Fulmer Memorial Classic as the only squad to go 2-0 over the weekend.
The Bulldogs picked up right where they left off in last night's comeback victory over UC Santa Cruz, firing on all cylinders in the first 20 minutes for a 50% shooting performance against Pacifica.
After senior guard Tristan Kirk (Redlands, CA) scored the Maroon and Gray's first five points, Redlands remained ahead through the final whistle en route to the wire-to-wire win.
Junior guard Matt Calhoun (Clackamas, OR) converted a pair of free throws for the Bulldogs' first double-digit lead of the game at 18-7 less than four minutes into the first stanza.
With junior guard Brian Kuklok (Poway, CA) leading the way by scoring all 12 of his points in the opening frame, the Maroon and Gray entered the locker room with a 61-36 advantage.
After junior guard Eric Radford (Federal Way, CA) drained his third three-pointer of the night to the open the second half, the Bulldogs stayed well in front while utilizing their entire bench for a solid display of depth and discipline. He went on to join the company of career-high scorers for the night with his 13-point showing.
Redlands rattled off its largest lead of the game at 35 points when it was just one away from the century mark with 7:23 to go in the game. Freshman center Shawn James (Plano, TX) capped off this effort with a made lay-up and eventually finished the night with a career-high 13 points off of 5-for-7 shooting.
Moments later, a pair of free-throws by sophomore guard Connor Griffin(San Ramon, CA) allowed the Bulldogs to eclipse the 100-point mark. Griffin also put up a career-high 13 points.
With 4:02 left on the clock, junior guard Kendel Glapion (San Francisco, CA) made the total-team scoring effort complete when he sank both free-throws to become the 15th Redlands player to garner at least one point in the game.
The Bulldogs shot 48.9% overall, highlighted by 10 three-pointers, to go along with a 19-for-25 showing at the charity stripe.
Kirk dished out a game-high seven assists while making only one turnover. He also chipped in 10 points and nabbed two steals in limited action.
Redlands dominated the rebounding battle with a 61-to-37 edge, including 26 offensive boards.
Among the All-Tournament selections, Radford, Kuklok, and senior forwardJosiah Brensdal (Kent, WA) represented the Bulldogs.
Pacifica (0-10) gained 22 points from Adam Tolbert, who also made the All-Tournament Team. Dion Hudson added 20 points, while Anthony Mangano contributed 17. Jade Radcliffe rounded out the double-digit performers with 15 points.
Redlands (6-2) partakes in more tournament action when it travels to Chapman University on Dec. 18-19 to face a pair of Northwest Conference foes in Willamette University (OR) and Whitworth University (WA).
