WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University men's basketball team began its home schedule with a strong statement by dismantling Christendom College 77-38 at the Field House on Tuesday night in front of a crowd of 150. It was a triumphant home debut for first-year GU head coach Brendan Stern and marked the seventh consecutive win for the Bison over the Crusaders in as many years.

Gallaudet (2-1) got out to an early 3-0 lead on a traditional three-point play by junior forward Tyler Crace (Westfield, Ind.), who netted a tough layup despite being fouled and converted the ensuing free throw. The play set the tone for a hard-nosed, total team effort in which the Bison had more steals (15) than assists (14) and had four players reach double digits in points scored, including Crace with 11.

The Bison stampeded through the first half, extending their initial three-point lead into a commanding 42-20 advantage through 20 minutes of play thanks in large part to junior forward Orion Palmer (Riverside, Calif.). Before halftime, the first-year transfer racked up 11 points and seven rebounds en route to a double-double with 16-points, 11-rebounds on the night. Gallaudet was in total command for the entire second half, holding at least a 30-point lead for the final 10 minutes.

Senior guard Layton Seeber (Champaign, Ill.) and junior center Danny Kelly (Strongsville, Ohio) were all-around contributors for the buff and blue with 12 points, three rebounds and three assists, and 11 points, six rebounds and five assists, respectively. Freshman forward James Steingieser (New Market, Md.) was also strong off the bench as he added seven points and six rebounds. For the game, Gallaudet held significant advantages over Christendom in field goal percentage (45.8-31.8), free throws made (18 to 4), steals (15 to 3) and turnovers (12 to 28) and rebounds (38-31).
