Bison lose GU Holiday Tournament consolation game to St. Joseph's

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Despite a double-double by senior center Danny Kelly (Strongsville, Ohio), the Gallaudet University men's basketball team fell to the St. Joseph's (N.Y.) College (Brooklyn) Bears in the consolation game of the GU Holiday Tournament on Saturday at the Field House by a score of 63-57.

Kelly was dominant for the Bison (2-3) on the offensive end of the court as he racked up 19 points and dished out three assists. He made 7-of-12 shots from the field and buried both three-pointers he attempted in the contest. The senior also made his presence felt defensively as he reached double-digit rebounds. He pulled down 13 defensive boards and added two offensively for a total of 15 in the game.

The Bison owned the first half and took a 31-24 lead into halftime. Of Kelly's 19 points, 14 came in the first half as he shot 60 percent from the field. He also added eight rebounds and two assists. As a team, Gallaudet went 13-of-27 from the field for a field goal percentage of 48.1. The Bison were much less efficient in the second half, however, as they only connected on 28.6 percent of their shots.

The Bears (3-2) dominated after halftime, shooting 48.4 percent from the field and outscored the Bison, 39-26. The Bears went on a 16-8 run after the break and took their first lead since the 17:57 mark of the first half when senior guard Jan Rogowski hit a three-pointer at 14:34 to give St. Joseph's a 40-39 advantage. The Bison regained the lead after three-pointers by senior guard Layton Seeber (Champaign, Ill.) and sophomore forward Ben Coleman (St. Paris, Ohio) but the Bears got back in front with 7:37 left in regulation and did not trail for the remainder of the contest.
