WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University men's basketball team never trailed on Saturday afternoon at the Field House en route to a comfortable, 67-43, triumph over Maryland Bible College. Senior guard Jocus Houston (Baton Rouge, La.) led the Bison with 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting in front of a crowd of 140 fans.

Houston scored the game's first five points and finished the first half with 13 as the Bison (3-3) entered the break with 34-22 advantage. He opened the game with a three-pointer at the 19:44 mark and the Bison never looked back. Gallaudet led 7-0 before the Soldiers (2-6), a non-NCAA sanctioned program, got their first bucket almost three minutes into the contest.

The second half followed the same script as the Bison played well offensively and used stifling defense to prevent MBC from making a run. Senior center Danny Kelly (Strongsville, Ohio) and junior forward Orion Palmer (Riverside, Calif.) posted phenomenal performances and played a significant role in the Gallaudet victory. Kelly finished the contest with 14 points and six rebounds and Palmer recorded his third double-double already this season with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Senior guard Layton Seeber (Champaign, Ill.) had a quiet night offensively but made his presence felt defensively with three steals and six defensive rebounds (nine total) to go with nine assists. Houston also had three steals on the afternoon. Junior forward Tyler Crace (Westfield, Ind.) contributed five points and two assists in the win.

Led by freshman forward James Steingieser (New Market, Md.), the Bison bench outscored the Soldier bench 15-4. Steingieser recorded six points on 3-of-3 shooting and added a steal. Sophomore forward Ben Coleman (St. Paris, Ohio) also came off the bench and contributed 18 minutes of play during which he posted three points, a pair of boards and an assist.
