Cardinals Hold Off Bulldogs Comeback Attempt For 66-59 Win

More news about: Brooklyn

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball Team was unable to come all the way back from a 10 point halftime deficit, as the Bulldogs got as close as one point in the final minutes, but could not get any closer as York improved to 4-4 and 1-1 in CUNYAC play with a 66-59 decision at West Quad on Thursday night.  BC falls to 1-5, 0-2 on the season with the defeat.

After the Cardinals led for the entire game and as much as 14 in the second half, the Bulldogs Steven Grant nailed two free throws to bring his team back to within one, 58-57, with 2:08 remaining and the Brooklyn home crowd behind the team.

York would answer right back, as unsuspecting hero Michael Trowers, who only played 17 minutes of the Cardinal bench, nailed a left corner three-pointer to boost the lead to four with 1:56 remaining.

BC came right back to score on the next possession and Jeffrey Noel converted on two free throws to cut the deficit to two, but after a stop, Kavon Baker was unable to convert on a drive to the hoop that would've tied the game, and BC was forced to foul.

York's Tony Vails would knock down both free throws and after a BC time out, Noel would lose the handle on the ball, forcing Brooklyn to foul once again and allowing the Cardinals to clinch the victory.

Baker played fantastically in defeat, pouring in 18 points, while dishing out six assists.  Sophomore Steven Diaz was huge for BC also, knocking down 4-7 from behind the arc. Noel was huge off the Bulldog bench with 16 points and a team-high seven boards, including three offensive.

Vails led York with 23 points, while Shamir Wilinson chipped in with 11 points and a game-high nine boards.  Terell Roper added 10 points in only 12 minutes as he left the game with an injury.

Brooklyn will look to get their first league win on Tuesday as they travel to borough rival Medgar Evers for an 8 pm start.
