Trinity Men's Basketball Beaten At Springfield

Springfield, Mass. - The visiting Trinity College Bantams lost to the Springfield College Pride, 64-49, this evening at Blake Arena. Trinity falls to 3-5 with its second loss in a row, while Springfield improves to 7-1.

First-year forward Shay Ajayi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tallied a team-best 13 points for Trinity and grabbed eight boards, connecting on six of his seven field goal attempts and senior captain Mick DiStasio (Yarmouth, Maine) notched 11 points in the loss. Trinity has hampered by turnovers throughout the game, committing 25 miscues which turned into 26 Springfield points. Jordan Rote netted a game-high 22 points to pace the hosts to victory. Springfield only had one other double-digit scorer besides Rote, as Josh Altman came off the bench to net 11 points, connecting on 3-for-5 from downtown. Robbie Burke posted nine points and six rebounds, while Sean Martin handed out five assists.

The Bantams owned an early 9-4 lead after DiStasio drilled a three 4:59 into the contest. Springfield scored the game's next 14 points over the next 5:19 to take a 18-9 lead, and held a 28-19 halftime advantage. Springfield built its lead to 11, 36-25, after Alex Berthiaume got loose in transition and finished 4:42 into the second half. However, Trinity put together one last surge, battling back with a 8-0 run to get within three following a free throw from DiStasio. Altman answered right back with a huge three from the wing, and a conventional three-point play from Burke the next time down the court put the hosts back up nine.
