Farmingdale State - 78, Purchase College - 57


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team improved to 2-1 in the Skyline Conference with a 78-57 victory over Purchase College this evening. The Rams now stand at 4-2 overall, while the Panthers suffered their first loss and dropped to 4-1, 1-1 in conference play.

Trailing 18-13 with 7:23 remaining in the first half, a 5-0 run highlighted by a Neal Fishenden (Sayville, N.Y.) 3-pointer and an AJ Matthews (Brooklyn, N.Y.) dunk, evened the score at 18-18. The first half saw six lead changes and the Rams led 26-25 at the break. Matthews led all scorers in the half with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Farmingdale State opened the second half on an 11-2 run to quickly extend the lead to 37-27 with 17:26 remaining and would lead the rest of the way.

Matthews finished with 21 points and 21 rebounds. Senior guard Christian Nunez (White Plains, N.Y.) added 16 points, while senior guard Ryan Davis (Flushing, N.Y.) tallied a game-high eight assists. Senior forward Leo Esonwune (Lagos, Nigeria) totaled 10 rebounds in the victory.

For Purchase, senior center Craig Davis (Queens, N.Y.) had a team-high 16 points, while junior forward David Haughton (Greenburgh, N.Y.) had 13 points and nine rebounds.

Farmingdale State next will face Valley Forge Christian on December 7th in the Juniata Tournament in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.
