FREDRICKSBURG, Va. – Senior guard Christian Jackson continued to lead the surge for Frostburg in a 78-72 win over Mary Washington in Capital Athletic Conference play, Saturday.
The game stayed relatively close throughout the entire contest. Sophomore guard David Patrick hit a three in the 14th minute of play to put the Bobcats up by two. Patrick hit a layup at 13:25 to post the score at 12-8. The Eagles answered back with a jump shot by Lamont Fields.
Frostburg continued the stretch with a jumper and a three by Jackson to put the Bobcats up seven. Sophomore guard/forward Shawn Henson furthered the momentum by draining a three to put FSU up 10 at 10:25.
The Eagles clawed their way back to put themselves within two with a three pointer by Bradley Riester. It was the Bobcats that posted the halftime score at 38-35 when senior guard DeSean Antoine glided a pass to classmate Micah Steinmiller who finished the layup.
Both teams continued to battle but Frostburg held the advantage as the Eagles held the lead by only two points early in the game.
With four minutes left to play, senior forward Kwambina Coker hit a shot and on the other side of the court stole the ball and assisted Antoine for a shot to put the Bobcats up 10. Jackson also found the glass to put FSU up 12, the biggest lead of the game.
Frostburg held the advantage in field goal percentage from the floor (57%) and from long range (45%).
Jackson led all scorers with 29 points, shooting a perfect 2-2 from the arc while also donating two steals and two rebounds.
Antoine put up 12 points while Patrick and sophomore forward Jabari Kamau contributed 11 each. Kamau led in rebounding, pulling down six in his 22 minutes of play.
The Bobcats continue their road trip traveling to Virginia Wesleyan tomorrow at 2:00 pm.
