WINCHESTER, Va. – It was a tale of two halves as the Frostburg State men's basketball team used a 16-5 run in the opening five minutes of the second half to come from a 38-36 deficit in the first half to defeat Shenandoah, 80-69, Monday evening.

Box Score

The Bobcats' (2-2) opening run was highlighted by eight points from senior guard Christian Jackson, who scored the first points of the half for FSU. Senior DeSean Antoine capped the run with his second three of the half at 14:56 to give Frostburg a 52-43 lead.

With 10:25 left on the clock, Shenandoah's Jared Carithers converted a layup to pull the Hornets (2-3) to within five, 58-53, but the Bobcat offense went off for a 13-4 run to put the visitors up by 14 at 70-57 with 5:23 left. Senior Kwambina Coker capped the run converting a traditional three-point play after drawing a foul on a good layup. With just 2:19 to go, Sharif Almulla hit a three to pull the Hornets within 10, 75-65, but that would be the closest they would get to the Bobcats.

After grabbing an offensive board, Jackson hit both shots in a trip to the foul line before sophomore David Patrick hit both of his free throws after stealing the ball on SU's ensuing possession and drawing a foul to put FSU up, 79-65. A layup from Jimi Starks and a dunk from Xavier Alston capped the Hornets' scoring, but it was too little too late as the Bobcats proved to be too much in the second half.

The Bobcats lead by as much as 14 in the first half, but the Hornets did as the Bobcats did in the second frame and chipped away at the score. With 4:52 showing on the clock, SU went on a 13-3 run to tie the game at 33-33 with just 2:23 to play in the opening frame. Almulla hit two free throws at 1:52 to give SU its first lead of the game, 35-33. Jackson pulled FSU to within one, 37-36, with a jumper but Almulla hit another free throw to give the Hornets a 38-36 lead going into the break.

The Bobcats made the necessary adjustments in the locker room and scored eight of the first 12 points of the second half, all coming from Jackson.

Jackson led the Bobcats in scoring for the fourth-straight game, turning in his third 20+ point effort of the season with a game-leading 27 points. Jackson went 8-19 from the floor and 10-12 from the free throw line. Coker posted his second double-double of the season with 18 points and pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds. Antoine chipped in 14 points while handing out four assists and senior Micah Steinmiller rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Bobcats with 10 points.

FSU shot 49.2% (30-61) from the floor, including 57.1% (16-28) in the second half, while the Hornets went 40.3% (25-62) for the game.

Frostburg State returns to the court on Wednesday, Nov. 28 when the Bobcats travel to Washington, D.C. to take on Catholic at 7:30 pm.
