More news about: Cabrini

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. –The Cabrini College men's basketball team rebounded from a poor first half to top Centenary College 65-58 to open its Colonial States Athletic Conference schedule.  The victory improves the Cavaliers to 4-2 on the season.

Senior Jeremy Knowles (Antioch, Cal./ Pittsburg) led the Blue and White with 14 points and 11 rebounds in the win.  Freshman Arron Goodman (Newtown, Pa./ Council Rock North) recorded his fifth double-double of the year with 13 points and 10 boards.  Seniors Goran Dulac (Levittown, Pa./ Pennsbury) and A.J. Williams (Wilmington, Del./ St. Elizabeth) matched Goodman with 13 points, each.

The team battled back and forth over the game's first 12 minutes as neither team could seize control.  A pair of Dulac free throws gave Cabrini a 24-23 lead with 7:22 left in the opening half.  It would be the Cavaliers' last lead of the half as the Cyclones went on a 15-0 lead, building a 38-24 lead with just over two minutes remaining in the half.  Rafferty's jumper in the final seconds sent the Blue and White into halftime trailing 40-29.

Cabrini shot just 35.5% from the floor, including 5-14 from three point range, in the first half.  Dulac's 11 first half points helped keep the Cavaliers in the game.  The Cyclones were on fire in the opening 20 minutes connecting on 12-24 from the floor, including 6-8 from beyond the arc.  Five of those treys came from the hands of senior Max Hughes who posted 21 first half points on 7-9 shooting.

The Cavaliers returned from the locker room with a renewed sense as they opened the half with a 13-2 run, tying the score at 42 with just over 15 minutes to play.  The teams continued to jockey for momentum until Knowles finished a lay-up with 9:34 on the clock, giving the Cavaliers a 52-50 lead they would not relinquish.

A Dulac bucket and Goodman three point play extended Cabrini's lead to 57-50 with eight minutes on the clock.  Back-to-back Centenary buckets cut the lead back to three points, but scores by Goodman and Williams returned the lead back to seven.

Williams' lay-up with 4:36 to play would be Cabrini's final field goal of the game, but the Blue and White tightened its defense, holding the Cyclones to just 2-9 shooting and three turnovers in the game's final four minutes.  Meanwhile, the Cavaliers connected on 4-6 from the charity stripe to seal the win.

Cabrini held Centenary to 8-28 shooting after the half, including 0-5 from three point range.  The Cyclones knocked down just 2-11 from the free throw line in the second half.

The Blue and White dominated the painted area, outrebounding Centenary 56-29, including 26-8 on the offensive glass.  Cabrini turned its offensive rebounds into a 14-4 advantage in second chance points.

Hughes led the Cyclones (4-3) with 23 points, talling just two in the second half.  Gabe Cheavers added 13 points in the loss.

The Blue and White will host its CSAC home opener on Wednesday when it welcomes Immaculata University to Nerney Field House.  Game time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. following the women's contest.
