No. 24 Seahawk Men's Basketball Manhandles Medgar Evers

Brooklyn, N.Y. – The No. 24 St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team demonstrated complete dominance over host Medgar Evers College Monday night, posting an 83-38 non-conference victory as four Seahawks scored in double digits.

Sophomore guard Nick LaGuerre (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) picked up a season-best 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including a perfect 4-for-4 from downtown.  LaGuerre also notched career-bests of five steals, four assists and four made three-pointers while contributing a season-high four rebounds.

St. Mary's (5-1) possessed red-hot shooting tonight as the Seahawks made a season-high 57.6% of their shots, including connecting on 9-of-14 three-point field goal attempts.  LaGuerre and senior guard James Davenport (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) led the sharpshooting effort as the duo combined for seven triples.

LaGuerre started the scoring for St. Mary's with the team's first eight points of the game, including back-to-back three-point baskets, as he made the Seahawks' first four field goals while Davenport gave his team their first double-digit lead of the contest, 17-6, at 13:20 on his first long-range basket of the evening.

The Seahawks headed into the locker room with a 44-21 halftime advantage as LaGuerre led all scorers with 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting while hauling in three rebounds.  Senior forward Winston Douglas (Hempstead, N.Y.) led the way for Medgar Evers with nine first-half points as Douglas made three of the Cougars' five first-half field goals.

St. Mary's lead bulged to 30+ in the first four minutes of the second stanza while crossing the 40-point barrier at 2:57 on senior guard Therm James' (Randallstown, Md./Baltimore City) first career triple.

Junior guard Brendan McFall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) and Davenport led the Seahawks' 43-point bench effort as they poured in season-highs of 13 and 12 points, respectively.  Junior guard Donn Hill (Aberdeen, Md./Bel Air) added 10 points and team-best six rebounds while junior guard Kyle Wise (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) dished a career-best seven assists.

The Seahawk defense caused Medgar Evers (4-3) to turn the ball over 26 times which led to 44 points for St. Mary's.  The visitors dominated the key, outscoring the Cougars 42-8 in the paint.

Douglas finished as MEC's leading scorer with 15 points while senior forward Jovan Deare (Brooklyn, N.Y.) contributed 10 points and sophomore Valin Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) pulled down game-best 10 caroms.

The Seahawks will be back in action on Wednesday, December 5 when St. Mary's hosts No. 15 Christopher Newport University (5-0) in non-conference action at 7:00 pm.
