Thomas More Remains Undefeated With 54-42 Win at Waynesburg

(WAYNESBURG, Pa.) - The Thomas More College men's basketball team remained undefeated today (Saturday, December 1, 2012) as it defeated Waynesburg University, 54-42, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints improve to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the PAC.

Thomas More raced out to a 19-8 lead with 10:05 to play in the first half when junior point guard D'Carlo Hayes (Louisville, Ky./Male) made a three-pointer.  Waynesburg put together a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 19-12 when Jason Propst made a lay-up with 7:58 to play in the opening half.  The Saints answered with a 3-0 run to build a 22-12 lead with 6:44 to play in the half when sophomore shooting guard Jalen Clark (Frankfort, Ky./Western Hills) made one-of-two free-throws.  The Yellow Jackets closed out the half on a 13-2 run to take a 25-24 lead at intermission when Propst made a lay-up with 24-seconds to play in the first half. 

The Saints opened the second half on a 6-2 run to take a 30-27 lead with 16:05 to play in the second half when junior small forward Brandon Housley (Covington, Ky./Holmes) made two free-throws.  Waynesburg used a 7-0 run capped by a Propst jumper to take a 34-30 lead with 10:47 to play in the game.  The Saints took a 36-34 lead when Hayes made two free-throws with 9:21 to play in the game to cap a 6-0 run.  The Yellow Jackets responded with a 6-2 run to take a 40-38 lead with 5:52 to play in the game when EJ Coleman made a lay-up.  Thomas More then closed out the game on a 16-2 run capped by a lay-up by junior point guard Eliot Pipes (Nashville, Tenn./Hillsboro) with 1:11 to play in the game for the 54-42 victory.

Thomas More was led in scoring by junior shooting guard Cameron Clemons (Louisville, Ky./Doss), who had 12 points, while junior point guard Spencer Berlekamp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) added eight points and Hayes finished with seven points.  The Saints were led on the boards by junior power forward Josef Marshall (Dayton, Ohio/Trotwood Madison) and sophomore shooting guard Chris Richard (Louisville, Ky./Southern) with seven rebounds each.  Richard led the team in assists with three, while Housley and Hayes led the team in steals with three each.

The Saints are idle until next Saturday (December 8) when they host Washington & Jefferson College at 3 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center.
