Triple-Double Sinks Gators in NCAC Opener

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Ohio Wesleyan senior point guard Andy Winter orchestrated a rare triple-double, and the nationally-ranked Battling Bishops pulled away from Allegheny in the second half en route to a 76-62 victory on Saturday at the David V. Wise Center. Taylor Rieger dropped in a career-high 25 points with a tremendous shooting performance, although OWU's off-guard was the beneficiary of Winters' outstanding play at the helm in the conference opener for both teams.

Allegheny trailed 38-33 at the break, and kept the game tight throughout the first half of the second frame. Following a jumper by D'Andre Corbin with nine minutes left in regulation, the Gators trailed 60-54, although a long drought from the floor after Corbin's make doomed Allegheny's upset bid. The Gators missed on their next seven attempts and didn't add to the scoreboard until a lay-in by Chris Milon six minutes later. Meanwhile, OWU was outstanding from three-point range and dominated the glass in stretching its lead to as many as 16.

Although the teams were statistically even through the first 20 minutes of play, Ohio Wesleyan boasted a commanding 25-13 rebounding advantage in the second half. The Battling Bishops cultivated a 9-0 advantage on second-chance points during the period, while finishing the game 11-of-26 (42.3%) from beyond the arc.

Ohio Wesleyan's (5-1, 1-0 NCAC) starting back court fueled the victory. In addition to 12 points, Winters dished out 13 assists and pulled down 11 rebounds. Rieger was 5-of-12 from deep and 6-of-6 at the foul line as the duo finished the game as the team's only players in double figures.

Devone McLeod led Allegheny (3-3, 0-1 NCAC) with 16 points, six assists and three steals, although the Gators were unable to knock down enough shots to keep pace down the stretch. Ryan Stanko added 13 points, while Corbin finished 5-of-5 from the field in totaling 10 points and four assists. Milon also played well with eight points and nine rebounds.

In a match pitting the league's top two shot blockers, Milon enjoyed the advantage with three stuffs, while OWU's Reuel Rogers had just one block
