Senior Wes Nordquist (Adel, Iowa/ADM) scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while sophomore Cole Darrow (Glenwood, Iowa/Glenwood) added 11 points, but it was #15 UW-Stevens Point using a pair of key spurts en route to an 80-68 non-conference victory over the Beavers inside of Siebens Fieldhouse on Saturday night.

Nordquist scored 17 of his 23 points in the second half en route to his third double-double in four games to start the year.  He finished the game shooting 9-of-13 from the field while converting 5-of-6 attempts from the free-throw line.  Darrow was 4-of-7 from the field in 26 minutes.  Senior Troy Ticknor (Adel, Iowa/ADM), playing in his first home game in more than a year, drilled three first half three-pointers and finished with nine points and a team-high six assists.  Sophomore Alex Savage (Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) chimed in with five assists, as BVU had 22 assists on 25 made baskets.

The Beavers shot 49 percent from the field for the game and made a season-high eight long range buckets.  They also made 10-of-13 from the charity stripe.

The Pointers (4-0) were tough off the dribble, shooting a stellar 53.6 percent overall, including 6-of-16 from downtown, while also sinking 14-of-15 free-throws.  Preseason All-American Tyler Tillema turned in 22 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists to help lead the team which returns three starters and 12 letterwinners from a team which captured its sixth straight NCAA Tournament appearance last season.

Clayton Heuer followed closely with 19 points and four rebounds, as Joe Ritchay added 15 points and five boards.

The Pointers led 17-7 early on before the Beavers slowly chipped away at that lead to get back within two at 25-23 with eight minutes left in the opening half.  UW-SP then scored the next six points to push the margin back to eight before a Ticknor three and a Darrow lay-up brought BVU back to within three.

From there, however, the Pointers scored nine of the final 11 points of the half to take a 40-30 lead into the break.

The Beavers made a run to start the second half, as Savage and junior Michael Kaufmann each nailed three's as part of a 10-4 run that got BVU within 44-40 just three minutes in.

UW-SP had another answer of its own, going on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to build a 54-40 lead and led by double digits for most of the half.  BVU got within nine multiple times, but couldn't put together enough of a run to get any closer.

The Beavers are now 1-3 overall and will continue their home schedule by hosting Morningside College on Wednesday night, November 28, in an 8:00pm tip-off.
