Lynchburg Rides Strong First Half to 80-64 Victory Over Goucher
SALEM, VA—The Lynchburg College men's basketball team got off to a fast start against Goucher College Friday afternoon, riding a 20 point first half advantage to a 80-64 win in the Dick Leftwich Roanoke College Classic.
The Hornets came out red hot in the first twenty minutes, shooting over 40 percent from the field; including 33 percent from three-point range while taking a 46-26 lead into the locker room. LC played a smart, controlling game in the half, posting a 12:5 assist to turnover ratio. Junior Xavier Parham played a big role in the outburst, collecting seven of his nine assists in the half.
Senior Austin Chillemi led the Hornets with 19 points. Junior Manny Hernandez had 16 points, 11 of which came in the first half. Senior Mike Wims added eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Richard Harris led Goucher (1-2) with a game-high 26 points.
Lynchburg (2-0) plays Johnson & Wales (RI) Saturday on the final day of the Dick Leftwich Roanoke College Classic. Opening tip is set for 1 p.m.
