PASADENA, CA – In the home opener for Caltech, La Sierra played the role of tough guest as the Golden Eagles posted a 58-44 win on Wednesday evening.

The game's first 20 minute saw seven lead changes and two ties as both teams struggled to find the bottom of the bucket. Caltech connected on eight of their 28 (28.6 percent) field goal attempts while the visitors converted on nine of their 27 attempts (33.3 percent) from the floor. All but one of the Beavers made field goals came from behind the three-point line.

Caltech control of the action late the first half. Trailing 17-14 with 7:42 left in the period, the home squad scored 11 of the next 12 points in taking their largest lead of the game at 25-18 with 2:48 remaining until the halftime buzzer. The Golden Eagles converted just one of their final five goal attempts the half in addition to having six turnovers. The Beavers went into the locker room with a 25-20 advantage.

The Beavers kept their lead through the early minutes of the second half. The Golden Eagles took the lead at 33-32 on a Carleton Coleman jumper with 11:52 left in the game. Caltech came down on their next possession and grabbed the lead back with11:17 remaining on a nice give-and-go between Andrew Hogue and Paul Kiefer. It was the final lead of the evening for the Beavers.

After the Kiefer lay-up, La Sierra went on a 15-2 run over the next six-plus minutes to grab a 48-36 advantage with 4:29 left in the game. Caltech got their deficit down to single digits at 48-40 on Michael Edwards fast break lay-in with 3:43 left but couldn't pull any closer.

In the second half, La Sierra committed just two turnovers while forcing the Beavers into nine to aid in their win. Caltech was able to nailed just one of their nine attempts from behind the arc in the final 20 minutes.

Isaiah Hawkins led all scorers with a 16-point evening. Hawkins hit a team high three three-pointers while dishing out a Golden Eagles best three assists.

Michael Edwards went 5-for-12 from the field during his team high 14-point evening. The senior hit four shots from distance.
