Farmingdale State Opens With Win over Neumann

Farmingdale State - 51, Neumann - 46

Pomona, N.J. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team opened the season at the Stockton Tip-Off Tournament with a 51-46 victory over Neumann University on Friday evening. The Rams will now face Stockton in the Championship game on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

Farmingdale held a 26-17 advantage at the halftime break, behind 17 points and seven rebounds in the first half from senior forward AJ Matthews (Brooklyn, N.Y.).

The Rams led by as much as 13 in the second, before Neumann made a comeback and trailed by only three points with 43 seconds left in regulation. Farmingdale answered with a basket and would hold on for the win.

Matthews finished with 23 points, 17 rebounds and five blocks. Junior guard Terence Henderson (Bronx, N.Y.) had nine rebounds and six points.

For Neumann, Rich Whitten led the Knights with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Dom Gibson netted 10 points.
