Sophomore Cole Darrow (Glenwood, Iowa/Glenwood) finished with a career-high 17 points leading four players in double figures, as the Buena Vista men's basketball team captured a third-place finish at the Carroll University Johnson Bank Tip-off Tournament on Saturday afternoon with a 76-66 victory over Concordia University-Wisconsin.

Darrow converted 7-of-16 shot attempts from the field and 3-of-6 at the free-throw line.  He also grabbed six rebounds, dished out three assists and posted two steals.  Senior Wes Nordquist (Adel, Iowa/ADM), who posted a double-double on Friday, followed with 13 points and eight rebounds.  Senior Troy Ticknor (Adel, Iowa/ADM) nailed a pair of three's and sank all four of his free-throw attempts to chime in with 10 points, as did freshman Nick Clark (Fort Dodge, Iowa/St. Edmond), who made 4-of-5 from the field, including 2-of-3 from down town.  Sophomore Alex Savage (Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) matched his career-high with six assists, while fellow sophomore Brett Heitkamp (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) posted a career-high eight rebounds, defensively.

As a team, the Beavers bounced back nicely after Friday's rough shooting night, and shot 51.7 percent overall, including 6-of-10 from long range.  It did struggle at the charity stripe, however, converting only 10-of-21 attempts.

Buena Vista shot out of the gate as Ticknor buried a three-pointer to give the Beavers their largest lead of the contest (20-2) with eight minutes gone by.  CUW did rally back, using a 23-9 run over the next 10 minutes to get within four.

Greg Sibenaller (Hornick, Iowa/Westwood) made 1-of-2 free-throw attempts and added a lay-up with a minute to play in the first half to push the advantage to 32-25 at the half.

Darrow's bucket early in the second half gave BVU an 11-point lead at 44-33, but CUW again fought back within two at 51-49 with a little more than 11 minutes to play.

BVU continued to lead 65-61 with just over five minutes to play before the Beavers got buckets from Clark and Nordquist to go back up by nine at 70-61 with under three minutes left on the clock.  Clark's lay-up near the one-minute mark then put the team back up by double-digits, and CUW was unable to get any closer than eight from there.

BVU held CUW to 42 percent shooting and only 11 free-throw attempts.

With the win, BVU evens its record at 1-1 and will now travel to Bethel University on Tuesday night for a JV/V doubleheader against the Royals.  The JV contest is scheduled to start at 5:30pm with the varsity to follow at 7:30pm.
