Free Throws And Rebounds Earn Final Win Of 2011

MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/29/11)—Concordia tuned up for the 2012 MIAC season by edging St. Scholastica 67-61 in the final non-conference game of the season. The Cobbers held a 43-31 rebounding advantage and were aided by a dozen missed free throws as they won for the fourth time on the season.

Concordia continued its home court success by having four starters finish in double figures in scoring. Dewon McKenzie, Ebo Nana-Kweson, Jason Huus and Brandon Fisher accounted for 47 of the team's 67 total points. The Cobbers are now 3-1 at home this year. The also upped their season record to 4-5. McKenzie had a team-high 14 points while Huus added 11 points and 10 rebounds to record his second double-double of the year. Nana-Kweson had 12 points, six rebounds and five assists and Fisher added 10 points to go along with seven rebounds.

St. Scholastica (1-8) also had four players score in double figures. Brett Tester was 7-for-18 from the floor and finished with a game-high 18 points. He also had seven rebounds. Chris Hamers came off the bench to knock down four 3-point field goals and came away with 12 points.

Both teams shot around 40.0% from the floor and 30.0% from outside the arc for the game. Concordia was 25-for-60 (41.7%) from the field and 6-for-19 (31.6%) from 3-point range and the Saints were 22-for-54 (40.7%) from the floor and 5-for-16 (31.3%) from long distance. The difference in the game came on the free throw line. Concordia shot 73.3% (11-for-15) from the line while St. Scholastica shot a frigid 50.0% (12-for-24) from the foul stripe.

The Cobbers will now hit the road for a pair of MIAC games t start the New Year. CC will play at Bethel on Monday, Jan. 2 at 7:45 p.m. and then head south to Northfield to take on St. Olaf on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 7:45 p.m.
