Lauren Hall-Gregory has been selected as the head coach of the New York University women's basketball team.

She replaces Stefano Trompeo, who resigned in May after four seasons, with a 61-45 overall record.

"I thrilled and honored to be chosen as the next head coach at New York University," Hall-Gregory said. "I am excited to represent a university that offers a world-class experience to its student athletes. NYU provides a great combination of a basketball program that is rich with a tradition of success and an athletic department that is supportive and motivated to be great."

Hall-Gregory comes to NYU after spending the last four seasons as the recruiting coordinator and first assistant coach at Division I Sacred Heart. In her four years at Sacred Heart, the Pioneers went 87-40 (.685) overall, 57-9 (.864) in the Northeast Conference, and made two trips to the NCAA Tournament.

Those NCAA berths came in 2008-09 and 2011-12, with Sacred Heart capturing the second and third NEC titles in program history in those years. After going 25-8 overall and 15-3 in the NEC this past season, the Pioneers ended the year ranked 17th in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll.

"I am excited that Lauren Hall-Gregory has accepted this position," said Christopher Bledsoe. "In our conversations it was clear that she understood what makes NYU and the NYU student-athlete experience special. She is prepared to work hard and smart to improve all facets of NYU basketball. Lauren is the right person to revitalize NYU basketball and reestablish our place in the University Athletic Association and on the national stage."

Among Hall-Gregory's recruits at Sacred Heart were Ericka Norman, the 2012 NEC Tournament MVP, and Gabby Washington, the 2012 NEC Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-NEC selection.

Prior to her time in Fairfield, Hall-Gregory spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks reached the semifinals of the Patriot League tournament both years and posted an 18-13 overall record in 2007-08.

Hall-Gregory began her coaching career as an assistant at the College of St. Mary in Omaha in 2005-06. That year, the Flames advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NAIA Division II Tournament.

A 2003 graduate of Hofstra with a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies with a human development focus, Hall-Gregory was a three-year starter and three-year captain for the Pride at point guard. She led the America East Conference in assists as a sophomore and was first in the Colonial Athletic Association in helpers as a junior. The Pride's MVP her sophomore year, Hall-Gregory ended her career fourth in school history in assists (454).

"My first priority is to get to know each one of my new players," Hall-Gregory explained. "They are the most important part of building this new program. Together, a day at a time, we will give it everything we have."

Hall-Gregory, who earned a master's in secondary education with a concentration in social studies from Lehigh in 2008, is a native of Vienna, Va., and resides in White Plains, N.Y.
