Keith Salscheider has been named head men's basketball coach at Maranatha Baptist Bible, athletic director Rob Thompson announced Monday.
Salscheider, 32, played professional basketball in Australia, Denmark, and the U.S. from 2003-09. He was an assistant coach for Edgewood in 2011-12.
He replaces Neal Ring, who finished 23-58 in three seasons as head coach.
"I'm no magician, but there are little things that sometimes go unnoticed, things I've gathered over the years," Salscheider said. "These players will be doing a lot of things they're not used to. It's going to be different, but it's going to be exciting."
Maranatha was 5-22 last season, but returns its entire roster next year.
The Bemidji, Minn., native is the son of former Bemidji State coach Karl Salschedier, the career leader in victories among BSU coaches with 147. Keith Salscheider's younger brothers played at Maranatha, and his younger sister is employed by the college as graphic artist.
Salscheider played college basketball at Division I Liberty, Division II St. Cloud State (Minn.) and Christian Heritage College (Calif.), now San Diego Christian College. His professional basketball career included four years in the Continental Basketball Association. He averaged 17 points and shot 45 percent from 3-point range for the Great Falls (Mont.) Explorers in 2007-08.
Salscheider will also teach as an instructor in the business department's sport management major. He and wife Colleen were married last Sept. 24.
