Simpson's run ends with loss to Buena Vista

STORM LAKE, Iowa – Zack Barragan scored a game-high 22 points but the Simpson men's basketball team saw its run in the Iowa Conference Tournament end with an 86-70 loss against Buena Vista on Thursday night.

Wes Nordquist scored 19 to lead five players in double figures for second-seeded Buena Vista, which advances to play top-seeded Coe in the IIAC Tournament Championship game on Saturday in Cedar Rapids.

Nordquist added 15 rebounds, Jeff Janssen and Doug Bissen each finished with 12 points and Michael Kaufmann and Michael Elming had 11 apiece for the Beavers (16-10), who improved their home record in the IIAC Tournament to 22-2.

Barragan made six 3-pointers in the final game of his career, moving his school record total to 199. He made 72 in 2011-12, the most of his career and third-most in a single-season in school history. He scored 1,083 points during his four years at Simpson.

Cornelius Mosby added 17 points and 14 rebounds for the sixth-seeded Storm (12-14), who were playing on one day's rest after their marathon, double-overtime win over Dubuque on Tuesday night.

Buena Vista never trailed and led by as much as 23 after halftime.
