REDLANDS, Calif. – A effective Redlands offense started early and never let Caltech back into the contest in posting a 91-65 win on Tuesday evening in a SCIAC match-up.
The home squad busted open the game with a scoring run early in the first half. Leading 8-6 just before the five minute of the frame, the Bulldogs scored 32 of the next 44 points in building a 22-point spread at 40-18. Redlands biggest lead of the first stanza was 26 points before eventually taking a 50-27 lead into the locker room.
Redlands hit 19 of their 32 (59.4 percent) field goals during that opening frame while holding the Beavers to a 7-for-28 (25 percent) shooting performance in the first 20 minutes. In addition, the Bulldogs offensive efficiency was evident as they recorded an assist on 15 of those 19 field goals.
During the final 20 minutes, the Bulldogs offense cooled off but they never let Caltech get their deficit to less than 17 points in taking the win.
The Bulldogs connected on 39.3 (11-for-28) in the final 20 minutes to finish the game by making exactly half of their 60 field goal attempts. Caltech went 18-for-55 (32.7 percent) from the floor.
Collin Murphy scored a team high 15 points to pace the Beavers scoring. The tally was a personal best for the junior and marked the second time this season he scored in double figures. Andrew Hogue scored 13 points while grabbing a team best eight rebounds.
Michael Edwards chipped in nine points as he ends his junior campaign with 1200 career points which is 97 points away from the school's all-time record.
Michael Estrada led all scorers with a 21-point night for the Bulldogs who head into the SCIAC post-season tournament as the No. 4 seed. Redlands will face top seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the four-team, two-day event. The Bulldogs end the regular season with a 13-12 overall record with an 8-6 mark in SCIAC games.
Caltech's season ends with a 5-20 overall mark. As a team the Beavers came up just short of setting the school's single season point total of 1455 set last season. They scored 1442 points as a team this year.
