Baruch Falls in CUNYAC Semifinals, Beauchamp Becomes Baruch's All-Time Leading Scorer

The Dolphins from the College of Staten Island recorded their 16th consecutive victory by defeating the Baruch College Bearcats, 73-63, in a CUNYAC Championship Tournament semifinal game played on Tuesday evening at CCNY's Nat Holman Gymnasium.

The Bearcats (14-13) will now wait to learn if they will be able to extend their playing season by receiving one of eight spots to the Division III version of the NIT, which is called the ECAC Metro Regional Postseason Championship. The eight-team field and bracket will be announced during the afternoon of Monday, February 27.

During tonight's game,
Chris Beauchampmade team history by scoring 20 points to become Baruch College men's basketball team all-time leading scorer with 1,557 points. He surpasses Leonard Mitchell (1996-2000), who held the previous record with 1,549 points. Beauchamp became the all-time record holder when he connected on a jump shot with 18:55 left in the game.

Staten Island (23-4) led throughout the semifinal and jumped out to a 10 point halftime lead of 37-27 by connecting on 6-of-14 three-point attempts. They continued to shoot the ball well in the second half as Jordan Young scored 14 of his game-high 25 points in the final 20 minutes.

The Bearcats did manage to get as close as four points (52-48) on a layup by Justin Giryluk with 6:53 left. However, Staten Island responded by scoring the next five points and connected on 14-of-21 free throw attempts down the stretch to punch their ticket to CUNYAC Championship game on Saturday, February 25, at 5:00 pm, at CCNY.

Beauchamp led the Bearcats this evening with a double-double of 20 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.
Fuat Yaparhad 11 points, five rebounds and two steals, while Adam Elfassicontributed a career-high with 10 points (4-5 fg).
