Stafford's Double-Double Leads No. 3 Seed Thomas More to an 82-56 Win Over No. 6 Seed Geneva

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Senior center Colt Stafford (Groveport, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) recorded his fourth double-double of the season to lead the third-seeded Thomas More College men's basketball team to an 82-56 win over sixth-seeded Geneva College tonight (Tuesday, February 21, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament quarterfinal round game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 19-7 overall and advance to host fourth-seeded Saint Vincent College on Thursday (February 23) in a 7 p.m. semifinal round game at the Connor Convocation Center.  With the loss, the Golden Tornadoes end the season at 6-20.

Thomas More took an early 4-0 lead when junior small forward Phil Feinberg (Tempe, Ariz./Corona Del Sol) made a lay-up with 17:36 to play in the first half.  Geneva answered with an 8-4 run to tie the game at 8-8 when Lambros Svingos made a jumper with 13:02 to play in the opening half.  The Saints responded with a 10-2 run capped by a Stafford jumper with 10:44 to play in the half to increase the lead to 18-10.  The Golden Tornadoes put together an 8-2 run capped by a Drew Santarsiero three-point play to with 7:30 to play in the first half to cut the lead to 20-18.  Thomas More closed out the half on a 19-13 run to take a 39-31 halftime lead when senior point guard Daniel Whelan (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) made a three pointer at the buzzer.

Geneva opened the second half on a 13-5 run to tie the game at 44-44 when Jacob Jaros made a three-pointer with 13:46 to play in the game.  Thomas More responded with a 4-0 run to take a 48-44 lead with 13:05 to play in the game when junior shooting guard Ross Renken (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) made a lay-up.  Geneva answered with a 5-0 run capped by a Dave Phillips lay-up with 11:35 to play in the game to take a 49-48 lead.  Thomas More closed out the game on a 24-7 run capped by a tip-in by sophomore power forward Josef Marshall (Dayton, Ohio/Trotwood Madison) with 50-seconds to play in the game for the 82-56 victory.

Stafford completed his double-double with a game-high 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.  Joining him in double-figure scoring was Feinberg with 17 points, junior point guard Ryan Hamm (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) and sophomore point guard Spencer Berlekamp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) with 12 points each and Whelan with 10 points.  Renken and sophomore shooting guard Cameron Clemons (Louisville, Ky./Doss) led the team in assists with three each.
