Greensboro Knocks Off Shenadoah, 89-78

The Greensboro College men's basketball team wrapped up its regular season on Saturday with an 89-78 win over Shenandoah.  The Pride finish the regular season with an overall record of 16-9 and will host Averett at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday as the number three seed in the USA South tournament.

Greensboro raced out in front with a big first half, going ahead 37-21 at the break.  The Pride first separated themselves from the Hornets with a 6-0 run that pushed an 8-6 lead to 14-6.  The run continued as Greensboro extended the margin to 21-10 with 8:50 to play in the half.

After Shenandoah cut the deficit to six at 23-17, The Pride finished the first frame out strong on a 14-4 run to go into the locker room on top by 16 points.

The Hornets hung tough in the second half, as the two teams combined for 109 points, but were unable to close the gap to within single digits.  Greensboro, meanwhile, went up by as many as 21 points en route the final score of 89-78.

The Pride finished the game shooting 44.1% from the field and outrebounded Shenandoah 45-30. 

Four players finished in double figures for Greensboro, with Damian Dixon and Luqman Tijani leading the way with 13 points.  Andre Porter chipped in with 12 while T.J. Holman added 11.  Brock Moorman also had a solid night with seven points and nine rebounds.

Saturday's contest was the final regular season game for The Pride.  Greensboro honored five seniors; Michael Jones, Michael Brewington, T.J. Holman, Brock Moorman and Andre Porter; all which earned the start in this one.

The Pride will be back in action at home on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. in the first round of the USA South tournament.
