DOVER, Del. - The Wesley College men's basketball team earned the third seed in the Capital Athletic Conference as it edged Mary Washington, 73-70, Saturday afternoon at Wentworth Gymnasium.  The Wolverines (12-13, 10-6 CAC) host sixth-seeded Hood College (15-10, 7-9) on Tuesday, February 21 in a 7 pm tipoff.

Paul Reynolds went for his average with 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the Wolverines while Quincy Pettiford (11 points) and JJ Bryant (ten points) also scored in double figures.  Reynolds also got plenty of help on the boards as David Langan recorded nine points and nine boards and Rasheed Carter pulled down a career-high ten rebounds, doubling his previous mark.  Eric Selby and Sean Hopkins also had solid games with eight points apiece.

For the game, Wesley outshot Mary Washington, 45.0% to 30.4% but the Eagles kept it close by making nine three-pointers and 19-of-28 free throws while the Wolverines struggled at the line (14-of-29).  UMW also turned 16 Wesley turnovers into 16 points.

The first half was neck-and-neck as neither team could maintain a run and Wesley went into the break with a 27-26 lead. 

The second half was a different story as Mary Washington jumped out to a 46-39 lead with 14:06 remaining, its largest lead of the game.  Wesley scored the next six points to cut the lead to one and regained the lead on a floater by Devon Davidson (six points) at the 9:08 mark to make the score 53-52.

After trading buckets, the Wolverines, led by a pair of treys by Hopkins, went on a 9-2 run to take its largest lead at 65-56 with just over five minutes remaining. 

Mary Washington was not through yet, however, and cut the deficit to 70-67 on a trifecta with eight seconds left.  They immediately fouled Bryant on the inbounds pass and after he hit a couple freebies, Riester made another three with two seconds left.

Nick Guidry then made one of two free throws after being fouled and the Eagles' desperation heave fell short.
