CASTLETON, Vt. - The Spartans put six different players in double figures on senior day as Castleton State College earned a 116-68 victory over New England College on Thursday evening in Glenbrook Gym.

Castleton's five seniors, Greg Hughes (West Rutland, Vt.), David Cochrane (Virginia Beach, Va.), Keith Schneider (Benson, Vt.) and Kyle Bennett (Bennington, Vt.) all started and got in the scorebook, combining for 38 points as the Spartans eclipsed the century mark for the eighth time this season. They improve to 16-8 on the season and remain atop the North Atlantic Conference with a 15-2 mark. The Pilgrims drop to 6-18 overall and 5-12 in the NAC.

Logan White (Hartford, Vt.) continued his torrid shooting, going 5-for-7 from behind the arc and finishing with 19 points overall. He also pulled down five offensive boards and six overall. Mark Comstock (Rutland, Vt.) added 17 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Dammy Mustapha (Bellows Falls, Vt.) and Tyler Ackley (Scotia, N.Y.) also reached double figures with 13 and 11 respectively.

Mario Moore (Kearns, Utah) led a balanced scoring attack for NEC and was the only Pilgrim in double figures with ten points. Ryan Schmitz (Redding, Calif.) added seven points, seven rebounds and three steals in the loss.

As a team, the Spartans forced NEC into 26 turnovers and held them to just 1-for-10 shooting from downtown. Castleton also recorded 16 steals, 21 offensive rebounds and assisted on 25 of their 40 field goals.

The Pilgrims came out aggressive and played the Spartans to a 10-10 draw throughout the first six minutes. However, Mark Pryzbylkowski (New Egypt, N.J.) his three straight free throws to break the tie and it jumped started a 16-0 run. NEC make one free throw to try to stem the run at the 9:05 mark, but Castleton fired off ten straight points in less than two minutes to make it a 34-11 game with 7:20 left in the first half. The Spartans pushed their lead as high as 29 before finishing with the 54-28 halftime advantage.

In the second half it was much of the same, as Castleton countered any run which the Pilgrims tried to make. The Spartans slowly built up their lead and the final score, 116-68, also proved to be the largest scoring margin of the game.

Castleton plays its final regular season game of the year on Saturday when the team faces Colby-Sawyer on the road at 3 p.m. A win clinches first place and home court advantage throughout the entire NAC Tournament.
