Brooklyn, NY --- Coming in its 2011-2012 regular season finale, the Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team downed the Maccabees of Yeshiva University by a score of 72-53 on Monday night at the West Quad Center. With the win, the Bulldogs conclude the regular season with a 17-8 overall record, while the Maccabees drop to 4-19.

Prior to the start of the game, seniors Amil John, Tyshawn Russell, Jonathan Martinez, Keiran Halton, Wade Kornegay and Eric Rodd were all honored for their hard work and dedication to the BC Men's Basketball program as part of "Senior Day" celebrations.

The first half featured a tight affair with four ties and nine lead changes, as both teams held a hot shooting hand. Yeshiva went 54.5% (12-22) from the field, including 57.1% (4-7) from three, while Brooklyn also shot over 50% in the period, going 10-for-19 (52.6%) from the field and 3-for-4 (75.0%) from three.

After a layup from Russell opened the scoring, Yeshiva's Chen Biron nailed a three-pointer to put the visiting Maccabees up 3-2 (18:25) in the first minutes of the game. Brooklyn would answer with a 13-3 run to take a nine-point advantage, 15-3, its largest lead of the half, with 15:28 remaining before intermission. Three-pointers from Russell, Martinez and Kornegay helped key the run.

Yeshiva would not go down lightly, however, as the Maccabees began to cut into their deficit and eventually regain the lead, 25-24, on a layup from Gil Bash, with 5:50 left before halftime. The teams would exchange baskets from there on out, as Yeshiva would claim the slim 34-33 advantage at the half.

The Bulldogs came out the gates with a pair of quick buckets from junior Kavon Baker to give BC a 37-34 lead at the 19:18 mark of the second half. The teams would again trade baskets until Brooklyn finally surged ahead for good.

Following a layup from Bash which tied the game for the eighth time at 46 all with 13:39 remaining before the final buzzer, the Bulldogs rattled off a 19-0 run over the next eight minutes to take full control of the game and claim a 65-46 advantage with 5:31 left in the game.

BC would cruise the rest of the way en route to its 72-53 victory.

For Brooklyn, Russell led all scorers with a game-high 20 points, while John finished with 18 points, seven assists and four steals. Baker chipped in with 16 points coming off the bench, while Halton added seven points and a team-high seven rebounds, also coming off the bench.

For Yeshiva, Biron led the way with a team-high 12 points, while Shlomo Weissberg chipped in with nine points and six rebounds.

The Bulldogs finished the game shooting 51.0% (26-51) from the field, including going 41.7% (5-12) from three and 65.2% (15-23) from the free throw line.

The Maccabees shot 45.2% (19-42) from the field and 42.9% (6-14) from three, while hitting 90.0% (9-10) from the charity stripe.

BC forced Yeshiva into 24 turnovers, which led to 34 points for Bulldogs.

With the 2011-2012 season now behind them, Brooklyn will now turn its attention to the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC)/Con Edison Men's Basketball Championships. The Bulldogs, on the strength on its 7-4 record in league play, have claimed the #2 seed and will take on the #7 seeded Cardinals of York College in the Quarterfinals Round, set for this Saturday, February 18th. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30 pm at the West Quad Center.
