HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (February 11, 2012) – The Cyclones dropped a vital home conference game to Keystone College on Saturday when they fell 110-93 to the Giants. The loss drops the Cyclones to a tie for the fifth spot in the conference as they hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over Rosemont College.
The Cyclones showed signs of struggle early on as the Giants jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead , including two buckets from downtown to start off the game. Centenary was able to respond however as they attacked back with a 13-5 run of their own to bring the Giants lead down to 14-13.
During that run, junior Max Hughes (Nazareth, Pa./Notre Dame Green Pond) was fouled as he nailed a bucket from well outside the perimeter, but was unable to capitalize on the four-point play.
After bringing the game to within one point, the Giants took over as they did not allow the Cyclones to take a lead the entire game. Centenary received a big blow to their offense as well late in the first half when senior Larry Lenahan (South Amboy, N.J./South Amboy) went down while trying to defend a three-point attempt and had to leave the game after only contributing with one point and three rebounds for the Cyclones.
The key for the Giants was the depth on their bench as they were able to score more than half their points off their bench in their 110-93 win.
The Cyclones were led by junior Warren Murphy (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) who finished with 22 points, eight rebounds, and four assists for the Cyclones while shooting 7-11 from the field. Sophomore Andy Charles (West Orange, N.J./Montclair) finished with his first career double-double as he stepped in with 19 points, 13 rebounds, two blocks, a steal and an assist for the Cyclones.
The Cyclones look to bounce back to action on Wednesday when they host their final game of the season as they take on Immaculata University in what could be a pivotal game in the Cyclones' playoff hunt. The team's five seniors will be recognized prior to the game as part of the annual "senior day" celebrations. Tip-off for the vital game is set to take place at 7:00pm.
