BUFFALO, NY—Brockport (11-11/9-6) prevailed 79-70 over host Buffalo State (17-5/10-5) in a frantic-paced SUNYAC game today at the Sports Arena that saw 53 combined fouls and 64 free throw attempts.
Brockport's Gerald Williams (Rochester/Charlotte) netted a game-high 19 points, and Donnell Jackson (Rochester/Edison) had 17 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Kyheem Green (Huntington Station/Walt Whitman) chipped in 15 points for the Golden Eagles.
Nico McLean (Amherst/Amherst) and Jake Simmons (Rochester/School of the Arts) led Buffalo State with 16 points each, with all of Simmons' scoring coming in the second half. Roderick Epps (Uniondale/Uniondale) added 10 points, and Ahmed Nagaya (Bronx/Astor Collegiate) had nine points and eight rebounds.
Brockport jumped out to a 21-11 lead and never trailed the rest of the way. The Golden Eagles held a 35-30 lead at the break. In the second half, they never led by more than nine, and Buffalo State cut the deficit to just two at 59-57 with less than six minutes to play. Brockport scored the next four points, however, and held the Bengals off down the stretch.
Brockport shot 40-percent from the field, but hit 27 of 35 from the free-throw line. Buffalo State shot a dismal 32-percent from the floor, but knocked down 24 of 29 from the charity stripe.
Buffalo State will visit Fredonia on Tuesday for an 8 p.m. contest.
