NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – No. 18 SUNY Oswego (19-3, 15-0 SUNYAC) shot 65 percent (13-of-20) from behind the arc, which ultimately did in the State University of New York at New Paltz men's basketball team (8-15, 5-11 SUNYAC) in a 92-68 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) loss Saturday afternoon at the Hawk Center. Prior to the start of the game, New Paltz honored its three seniors as a part of Senior Day.

Oswego had shots fall from all over the floor, shooting at a 57.1 percent (33-of-54) clip for the game. New Paltz was hampered by a 36 percent (9-of-25) performance from three-point range and 40 percent (22-of-55) shooting from the field. New Paltz did, however, shoot 88.2 percent (15-of-17) from the line compared to Oswego's 61.9 percent (13-of-21) shooting from the charity stripe. Each team had 10 turnovers, while the Laker bench contributed 32 points to New Paltz's 13. Oswego also controlled the glass, outrebounding the Hawks by a 31-25 margin.

Senior guard/forward Harris Wichard (Merrick, N.Y./Bellmore JFK), buoyed by 10-of-11 shooting from the free-throw line, drained a game-high 25 points to go along with 10 boards for the double-double. Junior forward Matt Devine (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold Township) also boasted a double-double netting 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Senior guard/forward Jamal Lis-Simmons (Highland, N.Y./Highland) joined Wichard and Devine in double figures with a career-high 10 points. Devine helped out on defense with three steals, which tied his career-high.

The Lakers put five players in double figures, with Hayden Ward leading the way with a team-high 20 points off 7-of-10 shooting from the floor and 3-of-3 shooting from the line. Sean Michele shot 5-of-7 from distance to achieve a 15-point total, while Chad Burridge added 13 points in just 26 minutes of action. Alex Mirabito and Josh Delfino came off the bench to score 11 and 10 points, respectively. Michele also handed out nine assists, while Burridge boasted the team-highs in rebounds (8) and steals (2).

New Paltz got off to its typical hot start, as the Hawks gained a five-point advantage at 7-2 after Lis-Simmons hit a three and freshman forward/center Alan Siergiej (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by-the-Sea) scored on a layup. The Oswego bench called a 30-second timeout, which helped refocus the Lakers, and they whittled the deficit to one with a Michele triple. Michele and Ryan Sheridan went on to hit a pair of unanswered three-pointers, and a Burridge layup capped an 8-0 Oswego run. New Paltz was never able to fully recover from that point forward, but the Hawks did come within five thanks to a pair of made free throws by Devine at 4:15 of the first half. Oswego, though, went on a 6-0 tear, and it wound up heading into the break with a 41-29 advantage. A 5-0 Laker run to begin the second half tilted the game completely in Oswego's favor, and the contest was never in doubt from that point forward.

With the loss, New Paltz dropped to eighth in the league standings by half a game. The Hawks will look to get back on track on Tuesday, Feb. 14, as it entertains SUNY Plattsburgh in its 2011-12 home finale. Opening tip is set for 6 p.m.
