ANNVILLE, Pa.  It's mighty hard to win road games in the Commonwealth Conference, and even more difficult to do so when playing from behind. Elizabethtown men's basketball found itself in that situation Wednesday night at Lebanon Valley. The Blue Jays were down 10 at halftime and though they tried to claw back, the Flying Dutchmen had enough to send the visitors to a 71-58 defeat.

Four times in the first half Elizabethtown tied up the game, but it was never able to grasp a lead against the Flying Dutchmen, who snapped a four-game losing streak and moved to .500 on the year at 11-11. Will Schlosser's layup brought the teams even at 18, but Cameron Prince scored four points and five different Dutchmen scored in a 10-0 run that pushed LVC ahead 28-18.

Elizabethtown (8-13, 4-7 CC) trailed 37-27 at the half, though they cut into the LVC lead in short order to start the final 20 minutes. Lebanon product Kyle McConnell converted a 3-point play, Steve Ennis hit a jumper and Jon Markel hit a pair of foul shots to trim the Jays deficit to six, 40-34, in the first 3:38 of the half.

Again, however, the Dutchmen answered. Joe Meehan, who finished with 16 points, and Danny Brooks (game-high 24) lifted LVC up with a 13-4 run that took its lead to 15. Schlosser's 3-pointer got E-town back within nine with 6:41 to go, the closest the Jays would get the rest of the way.

Joe Schwalm posted 12 of his team-high 14 points in the first half on 4-of-8 shooting, which included a pair of threes. The sophomore also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. McConnell scored 11 and also hit on two shots from downtown. He was the only other Blue Jay in double figures.

Senior Dan Silver put forth 24 strong minutes matching a season-best of eight points and setting a new season-high with six rebounds.

Brooks' 24 points came on a 10-of-18 effort as LVC outscored E-town 18-0 in fastbreak points and 42-20 in the paint. Meehan had a game-high eight assists to go along with his 16 points, while Jordan Stewart had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

E-town's loss dropped it into a sixth place tie with the Flying Dutchmen in the conference playoff race. The Jays sit two full games behind Alvernia, whom they play Saturday in Reading at 3 p.m.
