TACOMA, Wash. – A dual double-double from Anthony Gittens and Riggs Yarbro led the Puget Sound men's basketball team to a 66-52 win over Pacific Lutheran on Tuesday. The win snapped a three-game losing streak to the Lutes (10-12, 7-6 NWC).
Yarbro had a game-high 20 points and 12 rebounds and Gittens added 19 points and 13 boards to lead the Loggers (17-5, 9-4 NWC). Gittens also added five blocks as the Loggers held the Lutes to 35.2 percent shooting.
The Loggers led through the majority of the game as they jumped out to a quick lead 4-0 lead. The Lutes made a quick comeback and took a three-point lead with 16:28 remaining.
Gittens put the Loggers back in front with 11 first half points on 5-of-10 shooting. Yarbro caught fire in the second half, scoring 13 of his points in the final 20 minutes.
The Loggers overcame a subpar shooting night (only 32.9 percent from the floor) with a phenomenal rebounding effort. They outrebounded the Lutes 56-35 to generate17 second chance points. The combination of Gittens and Yarbro also produced a 32-30 advantage off points in the paint.
The Lutes made a run in the second half to close the lead to single digits behind 15 points from Cameron Schilling and 12 from James Conti. However, the Loggers were able to withstand the push and sprint away with the win.
Senior Day is on Friday when the Loggers play host to George Fox at 8 p.m.
