Visiting Denison shot 61 percent in the second half and hit 6-of-9 shots from beyond the arc over the final 20 minutes and handed DePauw a 78-69 North Coast Athletic Conference defeat.

DePauw dropped to 13-9 overall and 7-6 in the NCAC, while Denison improved to 10-12 overall and 7-6 in the conference.

The teams played two distinctively different halves as DePauw jumped out to an early 12-5 lead and stretched it to as many as eight at 32-24. The Big Red closed the first half with an 11-5 run to trim the Tigers' halftime lead to 37-35.

DePauw shot 57 percent from the floor, but Denison held a 21-13 rebounding edge and turned 11 offensive rebounds into a 9-2 advantage in second-chance points.

Denison scored the first five points of the second half to grab a 40-37 lead and later used a 13-4 run capped by Casey Stockton's three to take its biggest lead of the game at 55-44 with 10:03 remaining.

The Tigers came right back as Kevin Sullivan scored a layup before Alex Payne followed with a three-point play and a three-point field goal to close the margin to 55-52 with 8:03 left.

DePauw was within one at 57-56, but the Big Red used an 8-1 run to stretch the margin to 65-57 with just under four minutes remaining. Denison held a 69-60 lead after Brett Tiberi drained a three-pointer with the shot clock winding down with 1:23 left.

The Big Red still led by nine before Sean Haseley hit a free throw and Barry Flynn scored on a layup off a steal of the inbounds pass. The Tigers then picked off a second straight inbounds pass and Flynn's layup closed the Denison lead to 71-67 with 38 seconds left.

It was still a four-point margin at 73-69 with 26 seconds remaining, but Denison hit 5-of-6 from the line to seal the win.

Haseley and Sullivan each scored 13 for DePauw, while Flynn added 11. Flynn and Camron Burns each grabbed five rebounds and Michael Wilkison dished out four assists.

Brett Tiberi and Mike Garabedian each scored 14 for Denison, while Alex Long chipped in 12 and Larry Farmer notched a double-double of 10 points and 15 rebounds. Tiberi led Denison with four assists and hit 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.

DePauw shot 44.1 percent for the game, but 32.3 percent in the second half. The Tigers were just 1-of-11 from three-point range over the final 20 minutes. Denison shot 48.1 percent including 61.1 percent in the second half. DePauw matched a season low with just seven turnover, but the Big Red hit 10-of-21 from three-point range and outrebounded the Tigers, 39-24.

The Tigers travel to Oberlin on Saturday, February 11, for a 3 p.m. game with Oberlin, while Denison travels to Allegheny on Saturday.
